Dak Prescott wasn't too happy after the Dallas Cowboys released coach Mike McCarthy on Monday. The Cowboys quarterback hoped McCarthy would return to the franchise.
When the Cowboys announced they were parting ways with McCarthy on Monday, Prescott shared his reaction.
“Bummed, because we built some things,” Prescott said in a text to Clarence Hill of ALL DLLS (per Pro Football Talk). “But I guess they couldn’t reach an agreement. SMH.”
Prescott hailed McCarthy as "a great coach and a hell of a man,” while adding, “It’s the business. I look forward to the future plan.” The QB also said that he took “responsibility for our team being in this position.”

Prescott's 2024 season was cut short because he suffered a torn hamstring in Week 9 against the Atlanta Falcons. The Cowboys were 3-5 with Prescott as their starting QB and eventually finished third in the NFC East with a 7-10 record, failing to make the playoffs.
The Cowboys hired McCarthy in 2020, giving the coach a five-year contract, worth a reported $8 million in annual salary.
In that time frame, McCarthy posted a 50-38 overall record, including a 1-3 mark in the playoffs. Dallas also won the NFC East in the 2023 season.
However, McCarthy, who won a Super Bowl in 2011 coaching the Green Bay Packers, could not repeat his playoff magic in Dallas.
Now, it will be interesting to see who succeeds McCarthy as the next Cowboys coach. There have been rumors claiming Cowboys owner Jerry Jones might be eyeing a move to lure Colorado Buffaloes coach Deion Sanders to Dallas.
Dak Prescott will play under third different coach at Cowboys in 2025 season
The Dallas Cowboys selected Dak Prescott in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL draft. The quarterback made an instant impression in the league, winning the Rookie of the Year award, while working under coach Jason Garrett.
Garrett and the Cowboys parted ways in Jan. 2020, which led to Mike McCarthy taking up the reins. Following McCarthy's departure, Prescott will be under a different coach for the third time with the Cowboys.
While it's still unclear who will coach the Cowboys next season, Prescott is highly likely to remain with the franchise. The three-time Pro Bowi signal-caller signed a four-year, $240 million extension with the Cowboys just before the 2024 season.
