Michael Irvin delivers warning to other NFL teams upon Dak Prescott's Cowboys return

NFC Wild Card Playoffs - San Francisco 49ers v Dallas Cowboys
Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott

Dak Prescott is back at quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys after missing the last five games due to a thumb injury. The franchise quarterback will start in Week 7 versus the Detroit Lions.

He last started at quarterback this season back in Week 1 versus the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The question now is how the offense will look under the former fourth-round pick.

On NFL Gameday, Hall of Fame Cowboys wide receiver Michael Irvin shared his thoughts on what we'll see out of Prescott in Week 7:

Irvin spoke to USA TODAY Sports, saying that if Dak's replacement, Cooper Rush, had defeated the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 6, we would be having a different conversation.

"I think it worked out perfectly. If Cooper Rush had beaten Philly, we would have had some unrealistic (expectations)."

The Cowboys have a record of 4-1 without the 2016 Offensive Rookie of the Year at quarterback. Dallas started Rush in those games Dak missed, throwing for 956 yards with five touchdowns and three interceptions in five starts.

All three of those interceptions for Rush came in his lone loss as a starter in Week 6 to the Philadelphia Eagles. Now, with Dak Prescott back under center for the Cowboys, how will the offense look moving forward?

How the Dallas Cowboys offense will look with Dak Prescott back

Looking at the offense, Dallas' offense has struggled to throw the football, ranking near the bottom in passing yards. Given that Dak Prescott is coming off a thumb injury, maybe the team will lean on their run game. The running back duo of Ezekiel Elliott and Tony Pollard could see some of the load offensively.

Facing the Lions this week, maybe head coach Mike McCarthy might let his quarterback throw the ball. The Lions are statistically the worst defense in the NFL and rank high in the most passing yards allowed. For now, we'll see if the Cowboys can heed Irvin's advice in running the ball.

Let's see what happens moving forward for the two-time Pro Bowler and the Cowboys offense.
