Dak Prescott’s brother finds flaw in Cowboys fans’ plans to replace QB with Shedeur Sanders

Some fans want Shedeur Sanders to be the Dallas Cowboys' next starting quarterback. Meanwhile, it's no secret that the three-time Pro Bowler Dak Prescott has been wanting a monstrous extension as he begins the final year of his contract, especially after seeing his rivals like Jordan Love and Jared Goff "secure the bag," as it is popularly called.

Yet no significant developments have occurred, leading to the notion that owner Jerry Jones is throwing away 2024 in a bid to make a play for the Colorado Buffaloes prospect.

But Prescott's brother, Tad, sees a flaw in that thinking. Responding to Kansas-based sportswriter J. Tuck, he said that given the strength of the Cowboys' roster and their high chance of making the playoffs, their 2025 first-round pick would not be high, allowing other teams to nab Sanders earlier.

What are the chances that Shedeur Sanders replaces Dak Prescott at the Cowboys?

There are two primary reasons why Jerry Jones wants Shedeur Sanders in Arlington: 1, his father, Deion, had his most success as a Cowboy, and, 2, drafting him will cost less than extending Dak Prescott.

That's according to an NFC area scout who said this to ESPN:

"You better believe that Jerry has it in the back of his mind what the benefits of a young and cheap QB could be for that team if they crash and burn again in the playoffs. Imagine a home-state kid whose dad not only played for your franchise but was a highly successful player, and Shedeur is the type of player that'd embrace the star on the side of his helmet."

However, where Sanders lands is not entirely up to Jones. There are at least two other suitors in play.

In 2023, the divisional rival New York Giants gave Daniel Jones a four-year, $160-million extension after he led them to a shocking run to the divisional round of the playoffs. But then he performed terribly and tore his ACL during what eventually became a lopsided loss at the Las Vegas Raiders, reportedly causing general manager Joe Schoen to have buyer's remorse and seek a replacement. (He eventually settled for wideout Malik Nabers.)

And speaking of the Raiders, they desperately need a star quarterback, with neither Gardner Minshew nor Aidan O'Connell looking certain to be the face of the franchise barring massive improvements to their game.
