Tad Prescott wants Stephon Gilmore back with Cowboys

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott's brother Tad has been well known for sharing his opinions on many topics from his social media accounts. He was recently at it again, and this time, it was in relation to a free agent signing that he believes the team should make.

A fan posted a question on X centered around whether or not Dallas should re-sign Stephon Gilmore ahead of the 2024 NFL season. The star cornerback spent last season with the Cowboys, but is currently a free agent after his contract expired.

Tad Prescott responded with a green check mark, as requested by the original post, indicating that he wants the team to sign Gilmore. He apparently believes that this would help the Cowboys' defense in their pursuit of winning a Super Bowl.

In 12 NFL seasons, Stephon Gilmore has played for five teams and made an impact for all of them. Most notably, he won the Defensive Player of the Year award and a Super Bowl ring during his time with the New England Patriots. He has also collected five Pro Bowl appearances and two first-team All-Pro selections.

The Cowboys acquired him prior to the 2023 NFL season to pair with their All-Pro cornerback Trevon Diggs. Gimlore was forced into an even larger role than initially expected for their defense when Diggs went down with a season-ending injury. He responded by starting all 17 games and recording two interceptions.

On the surface it would appear that Gilmore makes a ton of sense for the team to bring back following his solid contributions. He could form an elite trio with Diggs and DaRon Bland, who had a breakout season last year. The issue could be financial, as the Cowboys are currently in a challenging situation with the salary cap.

With more than $10 million in available cap space, according to Spotrac, it would seem that there is plenty of room to bring back Stephon Gilmore if the Cowboys wanted to do so. While this may be true right now, the issue is that many of Dallas' top players are currently seeking massive contract extensions.

The list includes Dak Prescott, Micah Parsons and CeeDee Lamb, three of the best players in the NFL at their respective positions. All three of them are reportedly seeking to be paid as such, as they are rumored to desire being the highest-paid players at their positions.

This may be taking priority over committing any money to free agents, which could be why the franchise has been uncharacteristically quiet during the offseason so far.
