Davante Adams has been the target of feverish trade speculation that suggests he might leave the Raiders this offseason and join Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets. There have been reports that the wide receiver is unhappy with the situation in Vegas and wants to be in a position where he can fight for championships. That is unlikely to be the case with the Las Vegas Raiders this season.

But today his agents poured cold water over the rumors. Calling the rumors baseless, they said that the wide receiver is going to play for the Raiders in the 2024 season. NFL insider Adam Schefter reported on the statement from Davante Adams’ agents, Kenny Chapman and Frank Bauer:

“This is baseless, unfounded speculation and Davante is expected to be with the Raiders as there has been absolutely no trade talk - period.”

Davante Adams and Aaron Rodgers reunion hopes crushed for Jets fans

This pours cold water on a dream scenario of Jets fans that would have involved Davante Adams linking up with Aaron Rodgers in New York. The two of them had formed one of the best quarterback-wide receiver duos in the league when playing for the Green Bay Packers.

The Jets have a need for another top receiver alongside Garrett Wilson to help their offensive options, which fueled the excitement about Adams possibly joining. Earlier this year, when Garrett Wilson gave up his #17 jersey, which is what the Raiders' star wears too, people saw it as a sign that the move might happen.

But anybody who had paid attention to general manager Joe Douglas' earlier statements would have known that this was always unlikely. He had confirmed that the Jets made a lot of calls, but there was no interest from the other side in getting a deal done.

Another reason the chances of Davante Adams joining Aaron Rodgers in New York went down this offseason was the hiring of Luke Getsy as the offensive coordinator in Las Vegas. The Raiders' new hire was earlier the wide receivers coach for the Green Bay Packers, beginning in 2016, when Adams established himself among an elite company in the league.

Given the quarterback's advancing age and return from injury, it might be the best decision for Adams to stay where he is at the moment.
