Jalen Carter is one of the highest-rated prospects entering the 2023 NFL draft after an outstanding college football career with the Georgia Bulldogs. However, his draft stock, as well as his future in general, could be in jeopardy after a warrant was issued for his arrest.
Carter was allegedly involved in an incident that resulted in a fatal car crash. Georgia offensive lineman Devin Willock and recruiting staffer Chandler LeCroy were killed in a car accident on Jan. 15. Further evidence has shown that they may have been auto-racing against Carter. This resulted in a warrant being issued for illegally operating an automobile.
While details of the allegations continue to develop, Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart recently released a statement saying he is deeply concerned about the matter.
"The charges announced today are deeply concerning, especially as we are still struggling to cope with the devastating loss of two beloved members of our community. We will continue to cooperate fully with the authorities while supporting these families and assessing what we can learn from this horrible tragedy."

Carter could face charges of reckless driving and racing in the state of Georgia. According to the official police report, both Carter and LeCroy were demonstrating driving activity consistent with illegal racing immediately before the fatal crash.
"The evidence demonstrated that both vehicles switched between lanes, drove in the center turn lane, drove in opposite lanes of travel, overtook other motorists, and drove at high rates of speed, in an apparent attempt to outdistance each other."
Jalen Carter's representatives have reportedly informed the police that they are making arrangements for him to turn himself in. The new details of this tragic case could directly impact Carter's future, with the 2023 NFL draft less than two months away.
Where will Jalen Carter be selected in the 2023 NFL draft?
Jalen Carter could potentially be the number one overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft. He is considered by many professional scouts to be one of the most talented players in the draft class. The 21-year-old is one of two non-quarterbacks, along with edge rusher Will Anderson of the Alabama Crimson Tide, with a legitimate chance of being the first player drafted.
The Chicago Bears currently own the No. 1 pick in the draft. With the emergence of Justin Fields, it's unlikely they will select a quarterback this year. As long as they don't trade down, it's probable that they will go with either Carter or Anderson.
