The Dallas Cowboys have had a head coaching vacancy for just about a week now but some fans are already sold on the idea of two-time Super Bowl champion Deion Sanders taking over at The Star. Soon after the franchise and Mike McCarthy parted ways on Monday, reports emerged that Cowboys owner/GM Jerry Jones had reached out to Deion Sanders, who confirmed the interest, telling ESPN:
"To hear from Jerry Jones is truly delightful, and it’s intriguing. I love Jerry and believe in Jerry. After you hang up, and process it, and think about it, it’s intriguing. But I love Boulder and everything there is about our team, the coaches, our student body and the community.”
Since then, speculation has only been on the rise despite the fact that they have not yet scheduled an interview with Sanders. In any case, Sanders' close friend Steve Mariucci believes the Colorado Buffaloes head coach should dive right into that role. During an appearance on NFL GameDay over the weekend, Mariucci made a passionate plea, saying:
“Some people think this is crazy because he has no coaching experience in the NFL at all. But I’ll say this. He has coached a lot. He coached youth football. He coached high school football. He has coached college at a very high level. He and I coached together at the Under Armor All-American Game for 11 years. I’ve seen him relate to the kids when he starts teaching about DB techniques. He’s second to none.

"This would be awesome. If Jerry says you know what, he’s one of our own, he’s one of our stars, we’re America’s Team. Heck, he might bring stars from all over the country.
"I know that if he got the opportunity and they joined forces, this would be awesome to watch. He could do it.”
Where Dallas Cowboys stand in their head coaching search
So far, Dallas has not requested an interview with Sanders. Jerry Jones would have to go through official channels to do that and reach out to the Colorado Athletics Department to bring Sanders in for a chat.
They have, however, interviewed Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, albeit in a virtual manner. The Cowboys cannot have an in-person interview with Moore until Philly's season is over. In the meantime, they have also interviewed former New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh.
