Derrick Henry voices light-hearted complaint with Ravens' alternate helmet release

Derrick Henry has yet to play a down for the Baltimore Ravens but he is already complaining about the treatment he is getting from his new team. Luckily, it is nothing serious. Rather, it's some lighthearted ribbing that is seeking to rile up both his quarterback, Lamar Jackson, and get the fanbase going.

The Ravens released their alternate helmet and had a bunch of their players model it, as is the case with any launch. But conspicuous by their absence were Derrick Henry and Lamar Jackson. The first is the star running back, who joined this offseason and the other is the reigning franchise quarterback, who also happens to be the league MVP.

Noting that, Derrick Henry first wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter,

"Aye @Lj_era8 I guess we ain’t make the cut cuhh"

And just to clarify that he was not being serious with this complaint, he followed it up with:

"It’s all jokes y’all lmao"

While X is good for banter, what matters is what happens on the field. And in practice, Derrick Henry was all praise for his quarterback and his new franchise, as reported by Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic.

He said he was excited to get to work and fit in with what the team is trying to do. He also added that having Lamar Jackson as his quarterback was something he was looking forward to. It could also be interpreted as a sly dig at his old franchise, the Tennessee Titans, for saying that he will enjoy not being the center of attention. Here are his full comments:

“It definitely brings a different aspect, because he is a dual-threat quarterback, and he’s dangerous with his legs just as he is with his arm. It’s going to be fun and a breath of fresh air not being the center of attention, knowing that eyes are going to be on him, as well.

"But I’m just excited to get to work and put the work in out here and let it all come together.”

The team that made the AFC Championship game last year will be looking to go one better this year, especially with such a prized acquisition in the offensive backfield. And ultimately that is what the fans want: performing when wearing the helmet and the logo on the field and not just modeling it.
