Did Lamar Jackson get a new contract? Here's the latest update on Baltimore Ravens quarterback amid Dolphins trade rumors

2018 NFL Draft
Lamar Jackson faces an uncertain future.

Lamar Jackson did not get a new contract from the Baltimore Ravens, and as things stand, he will be a free agent this off-season. However, the Ravens can exclusively franchise tag him, meaning he could remain under contract for at least one more season.

However, there may be some light at the end of the tunnel, as it was recently reported that the Ravens appointed former Georgia Bulldogs' offensive coordinator, Todd Monken, and Jackson had an input. Lamar Jackson may be sticking around, or it's just pure speculation.

The topic of Jackson's contract has stuck like a sore thumb all season, and the perennial Pro Bowler's future has been a source of worry for Ravens' fans. It was reported that Jackson rejected a $250 million partly guaranteed contract before the start of the 2022 NFL season, as he was holding out for a fully guaranteed contract in the vein of Deshaun Watson.

The Ravens didn't give Jackson what he asked for, and as a result, he will be testing free agency in a couple of jiffies.

Latest update on Lamar Jackson amid Dolphins trade rumors

Lamar Jackson is currently the NFL's most sought-after free agent, as at least five contending teams are vying for his signature. One team that didn't seem to be in the mix until recently was the Miami Dolphins, but that has changed in the last few days.

The Mike McDaniel-coached Dolphins look like they'd be interested in Jackson, as doubts remain on incumbent QB1 Tua Tagovailoa. Tagovailoa has been an injury risk for some time, and the Dolphins are still awaiting confirmation from the medical personnel on the next step. If he's declared unfit to return, Jackson would be an all-star caliber replacement.

How did Lamar Jackson perform in 2022 NFL season?

Lamar Jackson had a decent 2022 NFL season and was playing at an MVP level before he got afflicted with a knee injury at the midpoint.

Jackson tried to play through the pain, but that didn't work out as planned. In the games he played, he put up a stat line of 2,242 passing yards, 17 touchdowns, and seven interceptions in 12 games. He also totaled 764 rushing yards and three touchdowns on the ground. Jackson helped lead the Ravens to yet another postseason appearance, in the process.

Unfortunately for the Ravens, Jackson could not play in their wildcard game against the Cincinnati Bengals, who came out victorious. Baltimore Ravens fans will hope that they have yet to see the last of Jackson leading the team as he enters an offseason of uncertainty.
