Comedian DL Hughley drags Colin Kaepernick into Donald Trump debate

Colin Kaepernick's kneeling demonstrations were one of many flashpoints between Donald Trump and those who opposed him. However, half a decade later, both are out of work and attempting to return to their former glory. Taking to Twitter, comedian DL Hughley protested Trump's 2024 campaign announcement.

Here's how he put it:

"Lemme get this straight #ColinKaepernick takes a knee loses his job forever! #DonaldTrump stokes an armed insurrection, steals classified documents, and loses 3 election cycles in a row but he’s applying for his again! #TeamDl"

Responses to Hughley's recent post are mixed, with many claiming this is a case of comparing two different instances. Looking back, this isn't the first time Hughley has tweeted about the former president. His timeline is dotted with plenty of retweets of certain opinions and other thoughts of his own. Put simply, if one wants to find someone's opinion on Trump, the comedian has plenty on offer.

The former San Francisco 49ers quarterback played with the team for six seasons, from 2011-2016. During his time in the league, he played in a Super Bowl and an NFC Championship game. The Super Bowl appearance came in 2012, and the NFC championship game appearance came a year later. He never reached the postseason again in his career.

While the fire didn't burn for a long time, it burned bright when it did. After an essential redshirt season in 2011, he took over the team midway through 2012, going 5-2 en route to the Super Bowl.

In 2013, he went 12-4. But it was all downhill from there. In 2014, he went 8-8 in what would be his last full season as a starter. After that, he went 2-6 and finally 1-10 in his final two seasons. After 2016, he failed to secure a job in the NFL. However, that is not to say he hasn't tried.

Seemingly every offseason, the player gets a run in which interest picks up. That said, aside from a workout here or there, the quarterback has essentially been stonewalled by the league. Now at 35 years old and nearing retirement age for quarterbacks, most don't expect to see Kaepernick return to the league.
