Donovan Edwards will be the Michigan Wolverines starting running back this season. Edwards had a breakout game in the national championship last season and is poised to hear his name called in the 2025 NFL draft.
Edwards is expected to be drafted on Day 3 of the 2025 NFL draft. ProFootballNetwok has Edwards as a mid-Day 3 pick, signaling a fifth or sixth-round selection, while NFLDraftBuzz has him as a third or fourth-round pick.
It does seem likely Edwards will be a Day 3 pick, especially due to running back draft stock in the NFL. But if Edwards can have a dominant season as the starter and can stay healthy, perhaps he could sneak into the end of Day 2, as Blake Corum did as he was drafted in the third round of the 2024 NFL draft.

Why did Donovan Edwards return for another year despite his chances of getting drafted?
Donovan Edwards was a five-star recruit coming out of high school and committed to Michigan. He's entering his fourth year with the Wolverines and last season, he rushed for 497 yards, 119 carries, and five touchdowns. His 2022 season was the best of his college career, as Edwards rushed for 991 yards on 140 carries.

Edwards could have declared for the 2024 NFL draft and likely would have been a Day 3 pick, but he decided to return to school.
“I’m still hungry. The season wasn’t how I wanted it to be necessarily,” Edwards said on Champions Circle’s The L.A.B (via SBNation). “And just popping out the way that I did on the biggest stage, for me, it’s like, that’s great.
"But what’s better than doing it again? What’s better than working hard in the offseason and to be able to do it again? So that’s what my mindset is — I’m still hungry."
Donovan Edwards will also have a much bigger role with the Wolverines in 2024 with Corum gone, as he will be the starting running back for Michigan.
