Kansas City Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones took a stance to free a woman convicted of embezzlement. The nature of Jones’ appeal divided NFL fans completely.

Earlier this month, Vera Liddell, a cafeteria consultant of the Illinois school district, admitted to stealing $1.5 million worth of chicken wings. As per court records, between 2020 and 2022, she ordered wings for school students but sold the 11,000 cases outside and kept the money. After her guilty plea, she has been sentenced to nine years in prison.

However, Jones took a liking to the 68-year-old’s situation and offered a helping hand. He took to X (previously Twitter) to make his appeal.

“I’ll pay for the wings that she stole to get her free”

Jones’ comment, whether in jest or seriousness, had two completely different effects on the internet.

“THATS DOPE AF and I know he aint trying to get likes for it”
“It is being speculated that Chris Jones has CTE.”

Many fans commended Jones for his outlook and were pleased by his gesture.

“Chris Jones. Man of the people. Humanitarian," wrote one fan.
“Chris Jones out here doing the Lord's work," wrote another fan.

Several fans, on the other hand, questioned Jones’ integrity while also highlighting the serious nature of Liddell’s crime.

“BREAKING: Chris Jones supports felons," wrote one fan.
“She robbed the community. It is not about the cash it is about what she did," wrote another fan.

Chris Jones is feeling his age

Apart from appealing for others, the three-time Super Bowl winner earlier this offseason made an appeal for himself as well. The DT highlighted that he’s 30 years old and wants fewer training camps and practice sessions.

The five-time Pro Bowler, however, did not get much time off from camps by head coach Andy Reid. But he has been rested amply in the preseason games. Interestingly, Jones did not attend last season’s training camp and went on to have a dominant season.
