Drake Maye trade predicted as Patriots vault to No. 1 overall in 2025 NFL Draft

New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye's trading reports have been swirling online. The Patriots are in contention to be the No. 1 pick in the NFL Draft 2025 and could use the opportunity to trade Maye to pick other players, particularly Shedeur Sanders.

Drake Maye was picked by the New England Patriots in the 2024 NFL Draft, so, with him on the team, the Patriots don't need a QB. However, as they could be the No. 1 pick in the Draft, there could be a possibility of them trading Maye to potentially draft Sanders.

Sports analyst Nick Wright opened up about the possibility of Drake Maye's potential trade in the upcoming NFL Draft. The American tweeted about the possibility that the Patriots could draft Sanders and Travis Hunter and trade Drake Maye for a top-five pick.

Wright also mentioned that the Patriots could fire Jerod Mayo and hire Deion Sanders. He tweeted:

"A not totally insane scenario: The Patriots fall in love with Shedeur, and instead of trading the #1 pick, they trade Drake for a Top 5 pick. They could then potentially draft Shedeur AND Travis. And then, for the hell of it, fire Mayo & hire Deion! Whaddya say @kevinwildes ??"

Shedeur Sanders has been the favorite of NFL teams for the 2025 draft. Reportedly, the Las Vegas Raiders were also interested in signing him, especially after Tom Brady, who owns a five percent stake in the Raiders, was found spending some time with Sanders.

However, with a win against the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Raiders slipped to No. 6 in the overall pick for the upcoming draft and could miss out on the opportunity to get Sanders.

Patriots' Drake Maye suffers injury against Chargers

In the Week 17 game against the Los Angeles Chargers, Patriots quarterback Maye suffered an injury when he had a helmet-to-helmet hit from the Chargers' Cam Hart.

Maye went back to the dressing room but returned in the second quarter. The New England Patriots, though, lost 40-7, marking their seventh consecutive loss.

The Patriots have been struggling this season. Although they started with a win against Cincinnati, they have had only three wins, in Week 8 against New York and Week 10 against Chicago. They next play in Week 18 against the Buffalo Bills.
