Drew Brees spills beans on Sean Payton's preparation for Broncos-Bills showdown - "He's going to have something up his sleeve"

Sean Payton and the Denver Broncos completed quite a feature in the 2024 season. After an unceremonial breakup with quarterback Russell Wilson in late 2023, they decided to go after quarterback Bo Nix in the draft. Not only was he named the starter for the season, but he also took them to the playoffs.

The Broncos had one of the NFL's longest playoff droughts, not qualifying for the postseason since 2016. Returning was the first step, but the ladder is way more complicated now: a game in Buffalo against Josh Allen's Bills awaits them.

To former NFL quarterback Drew Brees, who won a Super Bowl alongside Payton in the New Orleans Saints, this is going to be a very difficult task. And the head coach should have some tricks in order to better prepare his team for the game:

"He's definitely going to have something up his sleeve," Brees said. "I would say, this year, based on the new quarterback and the first year in the system, where everybody's really kind of starting to embrace it now, and moving forward, there's going to be something special this week he kind of throws into the preparation that makes the guys feel like this is a little different.

"The fact that you're going on the road and playing arguably one of the favorites, and a guy in Josh Allen, and an environment like the Bills Mafia, he's going to build that up a little bit, playing in that atmosphere, in that stadium, with the weather conditions, all that stuff."

Sean Payton isn't concerned about pressure on Bo Nix

Rookie quarterback Bo Nix has done an excellent job in his first year, and head coach Sean Payton doesn't think that facing Josh Allen and the Bills will be a problem.

"He's played in a lot of big games. And honestly, last week for him, for many guys, it was like a playoff game. So he's seasoned, and he's been in big moments. And you know what? He's going to play in bigger games," Payton said.

Payton had to wait until his fourth year with Brees to win this first - and only - Super Bowl, which happened in the 2009 season with the New Orleans Saints. After a positive first season with Nix, he'll hope to maybe shorten the time to win a ring in Denver.
