The New York Giants have been among the NFL's worst teams this season, making them one of the runaway candidates to land one of the top picks of the 2025 draft. However, something happened on Sunday that may have reduced their chances.
On Sunday, they eliminated the Indianapolis Colts from the playoff race with a 45-33 victory, their first at home this season.
Drew Lock, who was elevated to starting quarterback in the wake of Daniel Jones' midseason departure, was simply dominant, completing 17 of 23 passes for 309 yards and four touchdowns. Half of those scores went to rookie wideout Malik Nabers, who covered a career-best 171 yards to breach the thousand-yard mark.
Meanwhile, the defense had two sacks and two interceptions and recovered a fumble by Indianapolis quarterback Joe Flacco, who completed 26 of 38 passes for 330 yards and two touchdowns. The defeat spoiled a dominant day for Jonathan Taylor, who rushed 32 times for 125 yards and two touchdowns.

After the game, Lock reportedly said:
"Who cares about the No. 1 pick!"
The Giants (3-13), who have been said to be in the running to nab Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders, end their season at the Philadelphia Eagles (13-3). Broadcast details will be revealed at the end of this game week.
Giants players and HC Brian Daboll react to huge win vs. Colts
The general sentiment within the Giants’ locker room after the game was joy and relief. It was most especially apparent for head coach Brian Daboll, who had been long rumored to be on the chopping block alongside general manager Joe Schoen.
During his presser, he called the day “pretty good”, praising the offense for finally performing at a high standard.
Next to take the stage was Malik Nabers, who, among other things, was questioned on how the loss had hurt their chances at securing the no. 1 pick and thus getting a shot at Shedeur Sanders. However, he declined to address the situation, saying that he had no advice to the fans who had been hoping for a loss.
His fellow wideout Darius Slayton, meanwhile, refused to acknowledge the notion of tanking:
"This isn't basketball, it's not golf, it's not tennis. Football, you get hit. I'm not finna go out there and just let people tee off on me to tank. I'm not about to let people dive at my knees for free. At the end of the day, we're trying to win and today showed that fight."
Drew Lock, who was the last to speak, called the win “satisfying”:
"The fans deserved it, the locker room deserved it, everyone that is a part of this organization deserved it."
The New England Patriots, who had lost to the Los Angeles Chargers on Saturday, now provisionally hold the no. 1 pick. The Tennessee Titans, who lost at the Jacksonville Jaguars also on Sunday, are no. 2
