Bryce Young has been assigned the starting role once again. Carolina Panthers head coach Dave Canales told reporters that despite Andy Dalton being back to practice after sustaining a thumb injury, the team has decided that Young will start in his stead in the upcoming New Orleans Saints game.

After a rough start to the 2024 season, the team had benched the former Alabama star, whom the Panthers had given up a lot to pick No. 1 overall in last year's NFL Draft.

Panthers fans, however, did not seem too happy with the development and took to X (formerly Twitter) to express their disappointment with how the organization was being run.

"Dumpster fire," a fan wrote.

Another fan quipped that the Panthers were trying to race to the bottom by starting him, as that would let them have the first pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

"Panthers trying to grab that 1st pick I see."

Other fans also joined in and criticized the organization for cycling through the QBs without finding a permanent solution.

"they gotta pick a direction lmao," one fan said.
"I hate how these organizations play musical chairs ruining the confidence of these young men🤦‍♂️" another fan said.
"PANTHERS DOWN BAD AF," a fan wrote.

Dave Canales gives reason behind switching to Bryce Young

While speaking to the media, Canales did not attribute Dalton's benching to his performance as the Panthers' starting QB. Instead, he said the team was just trying to be careful with him and not trying to rush his thumb recovery which he had sustained during a car accident last week.

"I just want to make sure we are putting him out there in the right state and the right framework," the coach said. "And I’m excited for Bryce to have another opportunity to build on the things."

Canales added that Dalton might say he was ready to go, but they didn't want to take any risks. This also hints at the fact that Young may not retain the starting role for the rest of the season.

Although Canales didn't say so, Dalton might be back as the starter once he recovers fully.
