The Philadelphia Eagles' 10-game winning streak ended in Week 16 as Jayden Daniels and the Washington Commanders mounted a 14-point comeback to win 36-33. The Eagles were seemingly en route to a blowout win despite losing quarterback Jalen Hurts to a concussion in the first quarter.

However, Daniels put his team on his back and engineered an incredible game-winning drive to hand Philadelphia its third loss of the season.

The defeat was a tough blow to the Eagles' odds of finishing with the best record in the NFC. The Detroit Lions and Minnesota Vikings are 13-2, one game ahead of Philadelphia.

They may have the third-best record in the NFC but Eagles icon LeSean McCoy believes they are still the best team in the conference. On Fox Sports' The Facility, he said:

"We (the Eagles) got one of the best offensive lines in football, probably number one, the number one running back. Solid quarterback, top 10, right? Can we say some top-10 quarterback? Is that safe? That's fair. Cool. Got the number one or number two wide receiver duo in football. The number one defense in football. Number one, number two. What else do you want from us?"

He also ranked the top three teams in the NFC in order:

"I think we are the best team in the NFC. If you had to say the top three best teams at NFC for the Eagles, the Lions and Vikings."

Can the Eagles get the No. 1 seed in the playoffs?

A lot needs to happen for the Eagles to finish the regular season as the No.1 seed in the NFC. For starters, they'll have to win their remaining two games against the Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants and finish 14-3.

They'll then have to hope that the Lions lose to the San Francisco 49ers in Week 17 and the Vikings in Week 18 and finish with a 13-4 record. But that wouldn't do it either. They also have to rely on the Green Bay Packers beating Minnesota next week.

The Eagles cannot usurp the Lions if they finish with the same record. Philadelphia has a 7-3 record against NFC teams, while Detroit is 9-1. Both teams are scheduled to face conference opponents in their last two games, meaning the Eagles cannot overtake or even equal the Lions' win percentage against NFC teams if they end the regular season with the same record.

Philadelphia will finish ahead of Minnesota if they have identical records at the end of the season. The Eagles beat the Los Angeles Rams and the Green Bay Packers, while the Vikings lost to LA, giving Philadelphia the common opponent tiebreaker.

To summarize, the following things will need to happen for the Eagles as the top seed:

  • Eagles win in Week 17 and Week 18
  • Detroit goes 0-2
  • The Vikings go 1-1

It's a tall order but not all hope is lost.
