Jason Kelce has broken his silence over the criticism of his new ESPN late-night show, "They Call It Late Night with Jason Kelce," with a quick and witty reply. On Saturday, James Espinosa, a sports radio personality, described the show as “super cringe but also kind of entertaining,” saying:

“Idk, it sucks but whatever.”

Kelce replied to the criticism on X with a witty response, writing:

“You get it."

Since its debut on January 4, Kelce's late-night series has sparked plenty of debate. The show airs on Fridays at 1 a.m. ET on ESPN and is part of a five-episode series that runs alongside the NFL playoffs. It will wrap up just before the Pro Bowl and Super Bowl LIX on February 1.

The hour-long show, taped live at Philadelphia’s Union Transfer, offers a fresh take on football commentary. Philadelphia’s favorite center-turned-showman, Jason Kelce, announced the show during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! in November 2024. Back then, he highlighted its tribute to They Call It Pro Football, NFL Films’ iconic 1967 production.

"They Call It Late Night with Jason Kelce" will add to the ex-NFL center's ESPN portfolio alongside "Monday Night Countdown"

When Jason Kelce took the stage on “Monday Night Countdown” in September 2024, it transformed ESPN’s primetime NFL programming with his signature charisma and unfiltered takes.

Looking back at his broadcasting during the regular season, it is safe to conclude that Kelce's multi-year agreement with ESPN, announced in May, is already paying off.

From hyping up crowds at Lincoln Financial Field in a kelly-green Italian tracksuit to his candid on-air critiques of NFL performances, Kelce delivered exactly what viewers and ESPN hoped for, which is authenticity.

“It’s unique. He dresses different. He sounds different. He’s not a cookie-cutter NFL analyst," said Seth Markman, who is the VP of production at ESPN.

As earlier mentioned, it’s not just the theatrics. Kelce has proven his analytical chops.

During his first show, he dissected the Carolina Panthers’ decision to bench Bryce Young and brought levity with a quip about referees needing Next-Gen Stats after Justin Jefferson’s 97-yard TD.

Considering his post-playing career with ESPN, Jason Kelce has certainly found his footing in this new arena.
