Emmy and Grammy-award-winning artist set to be first woman to host prestigious NFL Honors award show

The NFL Honors award show is all set to make history this year. Kelly Clarkson, 40, will become the first woman to host the prestigious NFL event. The award show is set to take place on February 9 at Symphony Hall in Phoenix.

A fun event ahead of the Super Bowl, the NFL Honors show will honor the best players and performances from the league.

The show has been running since 2012 and includes awards such as the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year award as well as the most recent Pro Football Hall of Fame class. Before Clarkson, Steve Harvey, Alec Baldwin, and Seth Meyers were among the celebrities who performed on the show.

Clarkson, who is from Texas, is also a huge Dallas Cowboys fan. The singer also came together with Pepsi for a Cowboys anthem in 2012. While talking to ESPN, Clarkson added that she was a 'nerd' and couldn't wait to perform live at a game.

While this is not a game, it is certainly a significant NFL event.

I've been watching games since I was a baby. Cause in Texas, all we do is football, really – that and barbecue," Clarkson said. "I thought about all the things that I loved as a kid, and one of those things was the Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders".

She continued:

Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders are almost as famous as the Dallas Cowboys. I thought the one cool thing about the Cowboys is that when I go overseas all the time, they're kind of the only American football team that's really known around the world."

Clarkson rose to prominence after winning the first season of American Idol in 2002. Clarkson has only grown with her music since then, gaining numerous fans worldwide.

Clarkson, in addition to eight successful studio albums, also hosts The Kelly Clarkson Show. Her music has earned her Grammys, but her show has also received 13 Daytime Emmy Awards.

As mentioned, the award show will take place on February 9 in Phoenix. The NFL Honors Red Carpet Show will air on NFL Network at 8:00 PM EST, while the NFL Honors will follow.
