ESPN analyst Mike Greenberg slammed the Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones for blocking head coach Mike McCarthy's interview with the Bears. McCarthy, who has been the Cowboys' head coach since 2020, was set to have his contract expire on Tuesday.
As his contract neared expiration, McCarthy was scheduled for an interview with the Bears, who were searching for a new coach after parting ways with Matt Eberflus. However, the Cowboys reportedly blocked the interview. On Monday, January 13, the Cowboys confirmed that they are parting ways with McCarthy.
Following this move, ESPN's Mike Greenberg criticized Jerry Jones' move to block McCarthy's interview with the Bears. The NFL journalist tweeted on Monday, writing:
"Blocking him last week without ever engaging in negotiations was a low rent move."

Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones releases a statement confirming Mike McCarthy's exit from the team
On Monday, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones officially confirmed the exit of Mike McCarthy as the head coach of the team. In his statement, Jones praised McCarthy's time with the team and revealed that it was a mutual decision to part ways with him. Jones said:
"I have great respect for Mike, and he has led the team through some very unique and challenging times during his tenure. Over the past week, Mike and I had the opportunity to conduct a joint review of all aspects of the past season, our players and staff, and also spent considerable time discussing the road forward for the team.
"These discussions were thorough and received an appropriate amount of time and depth to cover. Prior to reaching the point of contract negotiations, though, it became mutually clear that it would be better for each of us to head in a different direction," he added.
With his exit from the Dallas Cowboys, Mike McCarthy is reportedly set to have an interview with the Chicago Bears this week, per ESPN's Adam Schefter. The interview could take place as soon as this Wednesday.
