To some, Colin Kaepernick is a hero on the level of Harry Potter. To others, he is "he-who-must-not-be-named." However, the latter demographic stayed away from the former quarterback's organization's involvement in unearthing a case of woeful neglect leading to the death of a Georgian man suffering from mental illness.
According to NBC News, Lawshawn Thompson was found dead in a cell in Fulton County Jail. He was allegedly found with a severe insect infestation due to the autopsy. One fan alleges this was only made possible by the former quarterback's organization.
An attorney working on the case called it "the most deplorable death and custody case in history."

As the offseason calmly flows like a quiet river, the quarterback has been noticably quieter on the job search front. Last offseason, it appeared he was pulling every lever possible to get back in the league, even getting an endorsement from his former head coach, Jim Harbaugh. However, it didn't amount to any jobs.
While a bit quieter, the former quarterback hasn't stopped working on getting back to the league as he hits the back half of his 30s. According to CBS News, the quarterback said he still gets up at 4:30 to train five or six days per week to "get his training in." He claims he still has a passion and ability.
That said, there have been no public workouts this offseason, especially on the same scale as last offseason. One could argue that Cam Newton took the place at the top of the "former NFL quarterback trying to get back through workout" rankings. Both quarterbacks haven't received any job offers.
Unlike in previous eras, there is no shortage of football opportunities to play in front of fans for money. The XFL just completed its inaugural season under Dwayne Johnson and the USFL is proving an ability to stand the test of time.
Will Kaepernick settle for the XFL next season or will he continue to push for an NFL job into the twilight of his 30s?
One could argue that if the XFL could get the quarterback to play for the league, it would likely be a boom for viewership. Of course, there is only one way to be certain.
