Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has faced the wrath of Dallas fans amid a disappointing 2024 regular season for the franchise. The Cowboys (7-9) won't make the playoffs even if they beat a second-string Philadelphia Eagles team on Sunday.

Furthermore, there is uncertainty about whether Mike McCarthy will continue coaching in Dallas next season, with reports claiming that his contract is set to expire in less than two weeks.

With the Cowboys showing no real signs of improvement to challenge for the Super Bowl under McCarthy, their former defensive end, Marcus Spears, has called out Jones for making the environment a challenging workplace for coaches.

"The name you just said [Jerry Jones] makes it very difficult to go get anybody." Spears said on Friday's episode of ESPN's 'Get Up.' "The damn repetitive record of ‘Are you going to let the man do his job?’ Ben Johnson’s doing great, he’s a high commodity. Ben Johnson’s not going to Dallas to tell Jerry what he’s doing.

"Aaron Glenn ain’t going there. This man fired a two-time Super Bowl winner 20-something years ago. Then won it again with Barry Switzer, and it validated a terrible move. I think you would’ve won five with Jimmy Johnson. It’s a lot of what is that coach going to be able to actually do when you name him a head coach.”

Per reports, McCarthy's current contract with the Cowboys expires on Jan. 14.

McCarthy, who coached the Green Bay Packers to Super Bowl glory in 2011, was appointed as the Cowboys coach in 2020. At the time of writing, he has compiled a 50-37 overall record (1-3 in playoffs) with the team.

McCarthy has led the Cowboys to the postseason in three of his five years. His Dallas team was eliminated in the wild-card round twice and once in the divisional round in the 2022 season.

It remains to be seen whether Jerry Jones will stick with McCarthy as the Dallas coach next season.

Jerry Jones made an appearance on "105.3 The Fan" on Friday and was asked whether the result of Sunday's game against the Eagles could have any impact on his coaching staff.

“No, the hay’s in the barn as far as our staff is concerned," Jones said. "I don’t think there’s something that would happen out there Sunday impacting where we’re going to be as we go forward,”

Jones also praised McCarthy for leading Dallas to a fairly respectable record after starting quarterback Dak Prescott suffered a season-ending hamstring injury in Week 9.

Jones has been the owner of the Cowboys since 1989 and has overseen three Super Bowl triumphs. However, his team has not won the Lombardi Trophy since 1996, and a section of Dallas fans, including Spears, have been getting impatient with Jones' ownership.
