It's been all about the Dallas Cowboys this week. From firing Mike McCarthy as head coach on Monday to targeting Deion Sanders as their Plan A to replace him, the Cowboys have moved quickly to make sure the world knows they are taking this seriously.
Soon after Jones reached out to Sanders, the Colorado Buffaloes head coach told ESPN:
"To hear from Jerry Jones is truly delightful, and it’s intriguing. I love Jerry and believe in Jerry. After you hang up, and process it, and think about it, it’s intriguing. But I love Boulder and everything there is about our team, the coaches, our student body and the community.”
While opinion is split on whether Sanders will actually take up the job, Cowboys fans are ready to believe Sanders will rescue the franchise from playoff mediocrity if he does take over. Mike McCarthy's predecessor Jason Garrett had a few words of advice for Sanders, highlighting what he should expect at The Star if he decides to be their next head coach.

“That relationship matters. I think Deion knows Jerry, Jerry knows Deion. I think they can have the conversations they need to have between owner/GM and head coach," Garrett said on the Dan Patrick Show.
"You gotta be able to be honest and direct with each other. When you’re the head coach in that situation, sometimes things don’t go your way. Sometimes you wanna do something and the owner/Gm wants to do something else and that’s part of the deal. Everybody’s got a boss.
"I think they can be honest with each other. I don’t think they’ll be walking on eggshells around each other.”
What Cowboys' pool of candidates looks like
Apart from Deion Sanders, two names have been strongly linked with the job - Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, who was also Dallas's OC in 2022, and former All-Pro tight end Jason Witten, who is currently the head coach at Liberty Christian in Argyle, Texas.
Moore has already interviewed with Dallas but there has been no update on whether Witten will also be called in for an interview. Per multiple reports, the Cowboys also plan on interviewing Detroit Lions duo Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn, though that could take a while since the Lions are currently in the Divisional Round of the playoffs.
