After a dismal 2024 campaign where they finished 5-12 and fired head coach Matt Eberflus midway through the season, the Chicago Bears front office is leaving no stone unturned to ensure they don't meet the same fate in 2025.
They have interviewed almost every viable head coach candidate but are far from done. They have six more interviews lined up and have remained tight-lipped about who the favorite is to get the job.
However, Dan Orlovsky believes they have already met with the best man for the job. On "NFL Live", the former Detroit Lions quarterback made a case for former Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy, whom the Bears interviewed on Wednesday, to get the job.
"I think it checks off all the three boxes, or the three most important boxes," Orlovsky said. "No. 1, walk into the locker room, you immediately have a winner. The expectation is to now win... He's done it everywhere he's gone. No. 2, every quarterback that he's had develops to a higher level under him.

"The third thing is this, Caleb, where's the No. 1 place he's got to grow? 'Caleb, What's the play? What's the defense? What does that mean to me?' Caleb, last year, still played with the question mark way too often.
Mike McCarthy will make it an exclamation point. We're calling this play. You're throwing the ball here versus this coverage. If it gets covered, then go make a play. That's the difference. That's why I love him there," he added.
The Bears are keen on hiring a coach who can help franchise quarterback Caleb Williams fulfill his potential. McCarthy's track record of 185 career wins is proof that he fits that bill.
During his time with the Green Bay Packers, he helped Aaron Rodgers win the MVP award twice. Under his tutelage, Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott shed the 'game manager' tag and became a game-changer. He earned two Pro Bowl nods and a Second-Team All-Pro selection, highlighting his development under the veteran head coach.
Cowboys didn't want to let Bears target Mike McCarthy leave
The Bears have seemingly had their eye on McCarthy for a while. Last week, they asked permission from the Cowboys to interview the head coach. However, owner Jerry Jones turned it down, suggesting he wanted to retain his services.
But earlier this week, news broke that both sides had mutually agreed to part ways. The Cowboys' front office was heavily critiqued for not letting McCarthy interview with the Bears and letting him walk only a few days later. However, NFL insider Jen Slater revealed that it was the veteran head coach who decided to leave Dallas.
"It's been my understanding that Jerry has talked to [Cowboys icon] Jason [Witten] in recent weeks and I do believe that he was part of a plan that Jerry initially had when he was going to bring back Mike McCarthy," Slater said.
"I think the plan there was to make him an heir apparent of sorts. Mike McCarthy sort of surprised him by deciding he wanted to end these conversations, pursue something else," she added.
McCarthy seemingly had an inkling that he'd find a better situation than the one in Dallas. Whether it's Chicago remains to be seen.
