New England Patriots second-year cornerback Christian Gonzalez has been one of the few bright stars on the roster. That still didn't change the fact that he wasn't named a Pro Bowler on Thursday.

Last season, he earned the league award for Defensive Rookie of the Month for September. The following month, Gonzalez suffered a season-ending torn labrum and dislocated shoulder that would shut his season down. He had 17 tackles, a sack and an interception in four games.

This year, Gonzalez has played all season and has recovered well from his injury. He has made 59 tackles, one fumble recovery and two interceptions. He frequently shadowed the opposing team's top wide receivers and had the 16th-best coverage rating (54.8%), according to Pro Football Focus.

Former New England Patriots quarterback Brian Hoyer voiced his opinion on Gonzalez not being named a Pro Bowler. He thinks Gonzalez, a top corner in the NFL, got snubbed due to being on a bad team and not being shown in primetime much this season.

"Gonzo falls victim to being on a team with a bad record and no prime time games. It's a shame for a guy who is a top corner in the league," Hoyer tweeted.

Marlon Humphrey, Derek Stingley Jr., Denzel Ward and Patrick Surtain II made it over Gonzalez in the AFC.

While one can argue the case that Christian Gonzalez was snubbed, other players can be viewed as being snubbed as well. Some of them are as follows:

Detroit Lions safety Kerby Joseph has a league-high nine interceptions and wasn't selected in the NFC. Houston Texans defensive end Danielle Hunter leads the league in pressure rate (19.3%) and has 12 sacks on the year.

Jacksonville Jaguars rookie wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. ranks fifth in the league in receiving yards (1,179) and receiving touchdowns (10) and is a more productive wide receiver than three of the four AFC wide receivers (Jerry Jeudy, Zay Flowers and Nico Collins).
