Ex-Packers QB defends Aaron Rodgers’ ‘darkness retreat’ - “They are doing it just for likes”

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers recently revealed that he will go on a four-day "darkness retreat" before making a decision regarding his future.

He is still undecided whether he will play in the NFL, but teams such as the New York Jets and the Las Vegas Raiders are interested in acquiring him. Rodgers indicated that he will spend four days and four nights in complete darkness, which will help him figure out what he truly desires in the future.

After Rodgers' statement regarding his four-day "darkness retreat," many went on to condemn him. That critique, however, was not well received by one of Rodgers' former teammates.

Here's what former Green Bay Packers backup quarterback Kurt Benkert said about the media going after Rodgers:

"I’ve seen a lot of people ripping on him lately (per usual) and it feels like they are doing it just for likes / to be “cool”. Meanwhile if it’s another athlete talking about doing things to work on their own mental health, it’s courageous. Don’t play both sides."

The media often targets Rodgers as well as other high-profile players because it guarantees them likes and engagements.

The Packers quarterback wants to cleanse his head by completely isolating himself following the Super Bowl, and ideally, he will choose the best decision for himself.

Although the AFC is stacked, there could be an argument that Rodgers can play better with the Jets or Raiders than he could with the Packers. Moreover, the Packers are looking to bring Jordan Love onto the scene as he has waited long enough for his opportunity.

It would be quite surprising if Aaron Rodgers retires, as many believe he can still help many teams become Super Bowl contenders, but when it comes to the No. 12 from Green Bay, expect the unexpected.
