Five wins in 17 is clearly not the way Aaron Rodgers had envisioned the season to go after undergoing a long, grueling process of recovering from an Achilles tear. While he looked healthy for most of the season, the New York Jets couldn't seem to put a good product on the field despite swinging for the fences in a mid-season trade for Davante Adams.

The fact that they fired coach Robert Saleh and GM Joe Douglas within weeks of each other highlights how much turmoil the team was in this year. Rodgers' future with the franchise is up in the air and is unlikely to be resolved until they hire a new GM and coach. While many fans believe that Rodgers is over the hill at 41, it appears that the four-time MVP did enough to keep the Jets offense afloat.

Aaron Rodgers ended the season by throwing for 3,897 yards, 28 TDs and 11 INTs. Those yards and TDs are good enough for Rodgers to rank third in franchise history and top 10 (eighth) among NFL QBs this season.

Jets fans looked back on why they weren't competitive despite Rodgers having a top-10 season and reacted on X, with one tweeting:

"F**king ridiculous right. Of course, we can't get it all going at the same time"
"Aaron can still play, but he needs a very good OL due to the immobility," one wrote.
"The run game was ranked 31st. The o line was trash," a second opined.
"Came up small in big situations. Failed game ending drives, blew 4th quarter leads, kicking issues, Ulbrich losing focus of the defense. It’s not about stats," a third wrote.

What the finances look like for Aaron Rodgers to return with Jets

It won't be cheap, that's for sure. If Aaron Rodgers is on the roster next season, the Jets will incur a cap charge of $23.5 million.

The Jets will also have to cough up a $35 million option bonus by the first game of the regular season apart from a base salary of $2.5 million. However, Rodgers has made it known he would be open to taking a pay cut, potentially easing the way to return next season.

There's also the little matter of sorting out Davante Adams' future, as the Jets will have to pay the All-Pro WR $35.64 million this year and the next.
