Jets QB Zach Wilson's second season defined as a sophomore slump
Before the 2022 season, many eagerly anticipated what many hoped would be a huge breakout campaign. The Jets have had some moments in the sun, but Zach Wilson hasn't. Despite owning a 5-3 record as a starter in 2022, Wilson proved to be an area of weakness for the team.
He has thrown for six touchdowns and six interceptions. While most quarterbacks started the season on the field, Zach Wilson started the season on the injury report. After coming into a situation in Week 4 where the team was 1-2, Wilson and New York went on a 5-1 run through the middle of the season.
However, since going on their bye, the Jets have hit a wall, going 1-4. After their Week 11 loss, the Jets decided to go in a new direction at quarterback. Mike White took the reins, but the losing skid continued. After suffering an injury, Wilson snuck into the starting role for the Week 15 bout against the Detroit Lions.
Wilson threw for two touchdowns and one interception, but completed just over 50 percent of his passes. Worse, the Jets lost the game 20-17. Looking ahead, most see this as the final chance for Wilson to prove himself. Fans have speculated that this was not something the team had planned on, but are pleasantly surprised by.
