Jonathan Taylor and the Indianapolis Colts will spend the week wondering how they lost to the Denver Broncos. In a game where they were one yard away from turning the score 20-7, Taylor made a costly mistake that totally changed the course of the match.
As the running back had a free lane to the end zone, he made the biggest sin in football: before crossing the goal line, he started celebrations and dropped the ball, which bounced off the field. Per rule, instead of a Colts touchdown, it turned into a touchback with the Broncos having the ball at the 20-yard line.
The specific mistake of dropping the ball before the goal line has been made multiple times this season, and NFL fans could not believe that this has been done again, especially by a player of Taylor's caliber:

"Lack of awareness and discipline. Coaching staffs will be showing this all week", said one fan.
"Ok seriously, how hard is it for pro athletes to cross the damn goal line before dropping the ball?", asked a second fan.
"I swear this happens a couple of times a week now. Just hold onto the ball", a third noted.
The turnover was a huge game-changer. Instead of opening a 20-7 advantage on the score, the Colts lost their way in the game. The Broncos regrouped, and the final score was 31-13 for the home team, scoring 24 straight points.
Jonathan Taylor contract: how much is Colts RB earning in the 2024 season?
Once considered one of the best running backs in the NFL, Taylor had a public discussion with the Colts owner, Jim Irsay, regarding his contract extension. He even missed games, but they were able to find a new deal to suit both parties and keep the running back in Indianapolis.
He signed a three-year, $42 million contract extension. Now, he has a $10,66 million cap hit with over $20 million in dead cap. His contract with the team runs until the 2027 season, when he'll become a free agent at 28 years of age. The Colts can release him after the 2025 season with under $3 million in dead cap.
