FedEx Field has been a part of Washington since 1999, however, from this year onward, the Commanders' stadium will have a new name. They are set to receive a nice sum after ending their deal with the shipping giant.
Soon after purchasing the Washington Commanders (then Redskins), owner Dan Snyder sold the naming rights to FedEx for $205 million. In return, the franchise received $7.5 million annually for the next 27 years, as per the Washington Post. However, FedEx ended the deal prematurely and the naming rights were up for grabs.
The Northwest Federal Credit Union has won the naming rights and the stadium will be known as the Northwest Stadium. As per the Washington Post, this deal between the Commanders and Northwest Federal Credit Union is for eight years, worth more than $7.5 million.
However, the team is reportedly in the process of securing a new stadium. And as per this deal, they are not bound to secure that new stadium until 2031. In such a case, Northwest will not have the first option of securing the naming rights of the new stadium, despite their deal running till 2032.

A new era at the Commanders
Last year, the Commanders received a new ownership. The name change is one of several measures the franchise has taken under the ownership of Josh Harris. While the team has received criticisms of a toxic culture, they have all the pieces to bounce back.
The three-time Super Bowl champs haven't won a single playoff game in 19 years. However, after drafting 2023 Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels earlier this year, the outfit is rejuvenated.
Daniels will hope to lead his team to glory as they start their campaign on the road in Florida against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on September 8.
