Pete Carroll and Russell Wilson's contribution to the Seattle Seahawks will never be forgotten by the fans who watched it. When the two were rising to the top of the NFL, it appeared that the NFL was going to live under Wilson and Carroll.
Of course, that never fully came to pass, but the duo was still one of the most successful of the 2010s. However, most have now attributed the success to Pete Carroll.
Speaking on a January 8 edition of "Pro Football Talk," NFL analyst Chris Simms threw a wrench into that argument, turning it on its head while talking about his candidacy to join the Chicago Bears.

Chris Simms: [00:03:02] "I'm not mad at Pete Carroll. I don't know if I necessarily think that's the right hire [for the Bears]. Pete Carroll, total defensive coach. Some would tell you that he never really developed Russell Wilson there in Seattle," he said.
"He just kind of played like it was backyard football all the time. And I don't think that bodes well for the Caleb Williams conversation on top of that," he added. [00:03:25][22.9] PFT
At his peak, Wilson was notorious for buying time in the pocket before launching a touchdown pass in the seemingly most hopeless moments. He delivered shades of that under Sean Payton in 2023, but it was a fraction of the experience in the 20-teens.
Exploring how Pete Carroll and Russell Wilson could reunite in 2024
The Bears appear to have at least the next two seasons under lock and key with Caleb Williams almost regardless of what happens. However, a path exists for Carroll to reunite with Wilson.
It would take some things falling a certain way, but the path technically exists. It would take Russell Wilson most likely imploding in the playoffs to a point where the Steelers don't renew his contract due to expire at the end of the season. It would also take Carroll signing with the Bears. If those two prerequisites are filled, it would then require Wilson to not get any starting offers.
Bears General Manager Ryan Poles, then, would need to win Wilson to be the Chicago Bears backup in free agency. At that point, Carroll and Wilson would be reunited in a vastly different capacity, but a reunion nonetheless.
Will the next month play out in that fashion?
