The impressive rookie season of Jayden Daniels got even more notable on Saturday. The quarterback, second overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, led the Washington Commanders to a shocking upset over the Detroit Lions in the NFC Divisional Round, winning 45-31 at Ford Field.
Daniels became just the second quarterback in the history of the league to defeat the #1 seed in the playoffs as a rookie. The only other passer to accomplish such a feature was Joe Flacco, in 2008, at the start of his career with the Baltimore Ravens. The Lions were considered the favorites to win the NFC and reach the Super Bowl.
During the game, Daniels had impressive stats. He threw for 299 yards and two touchdowns while not committing any turnovers. As a comparison, Jared Goff from the Detroit Lions had four total turnovers. Daniels also had 52 rushing yards during the game for 351 total yards.
After the impressive upset, the NFL world took to Twitter to express their satisfaction with the rookie's performance. One of his defenders was former Dallas Cowboys All-Pro wide receiver Dez Bryant, who called for the league to give him the MVP award:
The MVP ballots have already been cast, and the results will be revealed on the NFL Honors show to be held on February 06. Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson and Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen are considered the overwhelming favorites for the award.
