Michael Irvin’s rant against the Dallas Cowboys' decision to hire former offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer as head coach has found a supporter in fellow former Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant.
The Hall of Famer went off on a 19-minute rant about the current state of the Cowboys, especially the decision to promote Schottenheimer. He disagrees with the decision and believes the team should have hired someone externally.
“You bring in someone that was already inside as the head coach. You lose things there that you can’t grab back that I’m worried about,” Irvin said.

Bryant couldn't agree more as he shared a five-word reaction:
"88 didn't tell 1 lie..."
Irvin and Bryant both wore the No. 88 jersey during their time with the Dallas Cowboys.
Michael Irvin's stance on Cowboys making Brian Schottenheimer HC
Michael Irvin explains he does not have an issue with Brian Schottenheimer but he bemoans the nature of the internal promotion.
“You go and hire Brian Schottenheimer," Irvin continued. "I know he’s been in the league forever, but I also know he’s playing basketball in the NFL, bouncing his a** around to about 15 teams. I ain’t saying he ain’t a good coach, I don’t know. Ain’t nothing personal it’s not what we had needed.”
Importantly, he does not believe an internal hire could instill discipline in the team.
“We were fourth in penalties this year," Irvin added. "So how do you fix that? You’re going to be more disciplined? You're going to be a disciplinarian?”
He questioned: “How do you do that when you’re coming from the inside? Because you start saying, you jump offside we’re going to fine you, we’re going to penalize you, you’re going to do some running. Everyone will say, oh you’re going to start acting like an a**hole after we get you the job?”
Schottenheimer has been the Dallas Cowboys' offensive coordinator for the past two seasons. He is believed to have a strong working relationship with Dak Prescott, which may have influenced the decision to hire him.
The 3-time Super Bowl champion also referenced NFC East rivals, the Commanders and Eagles, meeting in the NFC Championship game on Sunday, citing the Cowboys' lack of success in the past three decades.
“Two NFC East teams in the NFC Championship game playing tomorrow. Our enemies on all fronts, and they’re holding a position that we haven’t held in 30 f*cking years!" Irvin said.
It's clear Michael Irvin was envisioning someone else to become the Cowboys head coach, possibly Pro Football Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, who was initially rumored to take over as head coach of The Lone Star.
