Former Philadelphia Eagles defensive back Chris Maragos didn't think that a knee injury back in 2017 was going to end his NFL career...but it did.

Maragos sued Dr. James Bradley, a renowned orthopedic surgeon, who operated on his knee for medical negligence for improper care of his right knee. The former Eagles defensive back has won his case and has netted a cool $43.5 million.

Per cbsnews.com, Maragos' knee rehab didn't go to plan and suffered a persistent tear. But instead of stopping his rehab to get the issue fixed, Bradley and Roman Orthopedics insisted on the player continuing his rehab. This led to other issues and ultimately resulted in his NFL career coming to an abrupt end.

Signed as an undrafted free agent by the San Francisco 49ers, the defensive back would go on to play for the Seattle Seahawks (2011-2013) and then the Eagles from 2014 through to 2018.

But as we know, his career was cut short due to his knee injury and the improper care he received.

He is still a two-time Super Bowl champion, one with the Seahawks and the other with the Eagles. However, that counts for little if he is dealing with constant pain due to his knee injury.

Now 36 years old, it is hoped that this huge windfall will go some way to alleviate the pain and help him move forward with the next stage of his life. Given that an NFL player's career is short to begin with, the fact that his was ended prematurely is a sad situation.
