Former Jets GM addresses whether Philadelphia Eagles should chase a ring or the rushing record with Saquon Barkley

Former New York Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum weighed in on the Philadelphia Eagles' approach to the postseason.

Alongside NFL analysts Bart Scott and Dan Graziano, Tannenbaum, during a recent segment on "Get Up," debated whether Philadelphia should push for Saquon Barkley to break the single-season rushing record or focus on securing the coveted Super Bowl ring.

Without mincing his words, he straightaway mentioned how Barkley’s individual rushing record should take a back seat when the ultimate goal is a Super Bowl win.

"If I am Howie Roseman," Tannenbaum said, [00:03:07] "I am coming out of the box. I'm going down to the field. I'm taking his helmet. I want to get a ring, not a record. Saquon, you could have been better. This has been outstanding on the field. Off the field? We don't care about this record. We want to win a ring, and we're going to sit you. Well, if we know that the seat is locked in 1 or 2. Greeny, you put all personal records aside and we're trying to win a championship."

The last time the Philadelphia Eagles won an NFL championship was six years ago in 2018.

The team's Super Bowl chances in 2025 are in a way related to Saquon Barkley's 1,688 rushing yards on the ground this season. The number has only pushed the offense and led the team to 12 wins and two losses. Therefore, the team's success and Barkley’s individual accolades feel inseparable now.

Philadelphia is already in the NFL playoffs. But the question remains, how will they position themselves in the postseason race?

Currently, according to the New York Times, the team has a 41% chance of earning a bye week. Meanwhile, their chance of hosting a Wild Card game is 59%.

Next, the Eagles are getting ready to face against the Washington Commanders, Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants. Apart from wins in these games, the Eagles’ success also depends on how other teams in the NFC perform since their rivals will continue to jostle for supremacy.
