Former Jets HC claims Justin Tucker should be on the street

Justin Tucker had always been one of the more consistent kickers in the National Football League. However, Tucker has struggled recently when his Baltimore Ravens team needed him the most. He is just 19 of 27 on field goals this season and was a topic of conversation on sports morning shows on Monday.

On ESPN's "Get Up," Dan Orlovsky said that he doesn't believe Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson is a candidate for "Most Valuable Player."

"I love Lamar, he was an MVP favorite," Orlovsky said (07:12). "I don't think he's in that running right now. I think it's a two-man race now."

Former NFL coach Rex Ryan then gave his opinion on the Baltimore Ravens after their loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday. Ryan said that if Tucker was any other kicker or if he played for any other team, he would have already been released.

"Let's face it, if this wasn't Justin Tucker, the the Hall of Fame kicker, because that's where he's going to end up.," Ryan said (09:19). "Yeah, and quite honestly, he would have been cut five weeks ago. I mean, you're staying, but by this guy over and over again, he has 10 missed kicks. I mean, that's crazy. In this team, especially come playoff time. You really have confidence that Justin Tucker is going to make kicks?"

Ryan added that the Baltimore Ravens should be concerned if they make the playoffs that Tucker may not be reliable.

Justin Tucker took accountability for Ravens loss to Eagles

What made the Baltimore Ravens' 24-19 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday afternoon worse was that Justin Tucker was responsible for seven points lost. He missed two field goals, one from 47 yards and the other from 53 yards along with one extra-point conversion.

In his 13 NFL seasons, it was the first game that Tucker had missed three kicks. After the game, he told reporters that he took full accountability for the loss and that all he could do was continue to work on his craft.

“I just left the points out there, I feel like I cost us this one," Tucker said. "But it doesn't really do anybody any good to dwell on it, the only thing that we can do, that I can do, is continue to work, move forward, take one kick at a time."

His field goal success percentage is just 70.3% and he has only made four of nine attempts from 50 yards or more.
