The Dallas Cowboys' search for a new head coach finally came to an end this week as the franchise promoted offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer to the role. Schottenheimer was the Cowboys' OC last year but did not call plays on offense, leaving Cowboys fans pessimistic about his hire.
Schottenheimer, of course, is the son of the late great Marty Schottenheimer who racked up 200 regular-season wins with multiple NFL teams. He was also a mentor to Mike McCarthy.
"Brian Schottenheimer is known as a career assistant," Jerry Jones told ESPN after the announcement. "He ain't Brian no more. He is now known as the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys."
While opinions were split regarding Schottenheimer's hire, one man who believes the Cowboys made the right decision is former New York Jets head coach Eric Mangini. On the latest episode of FS1's "First Things First," Mangini had this to say about Schottenheimer:

“He’s really smart. Really understood the system, could do a good job coaching the system. Brian was very flexible in terms of being able to incorporate new ideas. He wasn’t so religious on what he was running that he wasn’t going to be open to other things.
"He’s got familiarity with the quarterback, he’s got a relationship with the quarterback. There’s going to be continuity offensively. We’ll have to see what he does from a defense perspective, who he brings in. But in a lot of ways, going to get Kellen Moore versus hiring Brian Schottenheimer, I don’t think there’s a lot of difference there."
Cowboys legend Michael Irvin breaks down in tears after Jerry Jones' Brian Schottenheimer
Michael Irvin has been pretty vocal about the Cowboys all year in his capacity as an NFL analyst with FS1. Throughout the hiring process, Irvin has campaigned for Deion Sanders to be named the next head coach of his beloved franchise.
However, after his beloved Cowboys announced they were promoting Schottenheimer to head coach, Irvin went on an impassioned rant on his YouTube channel and broke down in tears.
"I hope and pray somehow, someway, somebody find some damn heart and stand up and say, we will represent The Star the right way. We don't give a damn who is coaching. We guarantee we're gonna win and we're gonna get to a championship game. But damn it, I doubt it. I'm so f*cking hurt," Irvin said.
Irvin also took a strong stance against Jerry Jones and his team, accusing them of butchering the legacy of the franchise.
