Ben Johnson and Sean McVay will now face each other in the race for the Super Bowl in 2025. Johnson and McVay exist in different divisions, so the competition won't be as intimate as against their divisions. However, as members of the NFC, both coaches will be tripping over each other to get the best seed possible.
While they are set to be competitors next season, Johnson will be tasked with doing his best McVay impression. At least that is what NFL analyst and former Lions quarterback Dan Orlovsky claimed on "Get Up" on January 21.
Dan Orlovsky: [00:01:55] "It's a worthy dice roll. That's what hiring a head coach is. It's a dice roll and this is the one that you can justify as worthy. He's got to go be Caleb Williams' Sean McVay. Sean McVay [like] what he did [with] Jared Goff. Jared was this talented guy that really struggled in his rookie season. Sean McVay comes in and he takes over, Jared Goff career [then] ascends," he said.

Goff went 0-7 under Jeff Fisher in 2016. Then, in McVay's first season in 2017, he went 11-4. Today, many see him as one of the top quarterbacks in the NFC. Ben Johnson will hope to flip Williams' 5-12 rookie season record on its head in 2025.
Exploring Ben Johnson's difficult to-do list in 2025
Ben Johnson is starting from the bottom of the mountain in late January. By the end of the year, fans hope to see a revitalized version of the Bears. However, there are many milestones that need to be reached to realize this vision. Most of them are quite daunting.
The first thing is that Caleb Williams will need to find a new gear under Johnson. If that happens, the Bears will then need to take out the dominant Lions, coming off a 15-2 year in 2024.
They also would need to find a way to supplant the 14-win Minnesota Vikings. Additionally, they will need to figure out how to reverse the seemingly eternal struggle against the Green Bay Packers.
If even one of these goals is met, some fans may call it a successful season. However, heading into the year, all are goals for the organization that has struggled to win consistently for decades.
Will Ben Johnson pull off a similar revival to what Sean McVay accomplished in 2017 while working against Russell Wilson and the Legion of Boom?
