Sam Darnold and Shedeur Sanders could be the best quarterback options for free agency and the NFL draft this year, respectively. Some teams, like the New York Giants, might need to choose between the two, and making the wrong decision could be costly.

On one hand, they could go cheap with Shedeur Sanders or they could go for the expensive veteran should he become available. While speaking about the Giants' potential situation on "Get Up," NFL analyst Dan Orlovsky gave his choice.

"Are you willing to pay Sam Darnold 50 million bucks? I would much rather have that than drafting," Orlovsky said [00:11:34]. "I think the question for the Giants is going to be ... Sam Darnold at $50 million, can you pry him away from Minnesota, Justin Fields, or Russell Wilson for 20-something million?"
"Kirk Cousins for $27 million? If the Patriots, Titans, and Browns are ahead of you, I would expect those quarterbacks to more than likely be gone in two of those three spots. Their roster is so bad you can't give up picks. So the free agent market is more likely than Shedeur Sanders," he added [00:12:07].

As the New York Giants weigh their options, they are far from the only ones. The Atlanta Falcons made an interesting move in the 2024 NFL draft that had many scratching their heads but now looks to have been a solid long-term investment.

After taking on Kirk Cousins, the Falcons then drafted Michael Penix Jr., much to the shock of the NFL world. While this may not have helped the Falcons in building a roster that could compete for the Super Bowl this year, with Cousins being faded out and Penix coming in, the future could be brighter.

The possibility of an Atlanta Falcons-like move of getting Sam Darnold and Sanders is interesting for New York, but winning in Week 17 has put a dent in that. The Giants now own the No. 4 pick, whereas they had been in the No. 1 spot before the game.

It will be interesting to see if New York can get either of these QBs or both, and if they will actively pursue them.
