Former Philadelphia Eagles running back LeSean McCoy blamed quarterback Trevor Lawrence's $275 million deal for the Jacksonville Jaguars parting ways with coach Doug Pederson.
Pederson became the first victim of NFL Black Monday, departing after a 4-13 finish this season.
Pederson, the Jaguars' sixth coach since 2011, went 22-29 and failed to join Tom Coughlin, the only coach in franchise history with a winning record. Pederson's firing didn't come as much of a surprise, but many were taken aback by owner Shad Khan sticking with general manager Trent Baalke.
Nevertheless, it appears that this is it for Pederson, who might struggle to land a coaching job with another NFL team, given the fact that the league has been trending towards younger, offensive coaches in recent years.

McCoy offered his thoughts on Pederson being fired and laid the blame squarely on the quarterback. On FS1's The Facility, McCoy said:
“Doug Pederson’s a really good coach. He’s a winning coach. He comes from the Andy Reid tree so you know what that’s about. He goes to Philadelphia. He wins a championship. He didn’t win it with Carson Wentz. He wins with Nick Foles.
"Then he goes to Jacksonville. He helps Trevor Lawrence out but how much can you help a guy that’s not that good? Then you pay these quarterbacks all this money and you don’t do well because they’re not that good of a player and you gotta blame somebody. Who do you blame? Let’s blame the head coach. But you don’t blame a winning head coach who has been winning all his life. It doesn't make sense. The league is messed up."
Trevor Lawrence signed a five-year, $275 million deal in September. With an annual average salary of $55 million, Lawrence is tied for the second-highest-paid QB in the league, alongside Joe Burrow and Jordan Love. Dak Prescott is the NFL's highest-paid player at $60 million a year.
What's next for Trevor Lawrence and the Jacksonville Jaguars after firing Doug Pederson?
Considering Pederson went 4-13 this season, the franchise was expected to ring in the changes. The question now is who Trevor Lawrence and Co. could turn to in the offseason.
There are several names on the coaching carousel with experience. That list includes Washington Commanders OC Kliff Kingsbury, Minnesota Vikings DC Brian Flores, former Tennessee Titans coach Mike Vrabel and former Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll.
The Jaguars could interview candidates like Vrabel and Carroll immediately, given they aren't affiliated with any team. Names like Kingsbury and Flores could be interviewed virtually at the moment, given the Commanders and the Vikings are in the playoffs.
