Former NFL MVP Boomer Esiason offered his thoughts on the New York Jets' search for a new coach. The Jets, along with the New Orleans Saints, Chicago Bears, Jacksonville Jaguars and the Las Vegas Raiders are in the same boat - looking for a new coach to lead the roster in 2025.
Interestingly, apart from the Jets, all four teams have general managers in place to lead their search for a new coach. The Jets fired Robert Saleh as HC in October and followed that up by firing GM Joe Douglas a few weeks later. That leaves them with a mountain to climb before they make any decisions on the roster for next season, including what to do with Aaron Rodgers.
However, Esiason believes Woody Johnson's Jets are going about it the wrong way. On the Boomer & Gio Show, the Bengals legend made his feelings crystal clear on what he thinks is an errant approach from Johnson.
“I just don’t understand one thing. I would hope your GM would be involved in these. You have to make sure two people can work together and that there is some sort of similarity in the way of thinking about the game of football.”

Inside the New York Jets' search for a new GM
The Jets have interviewed five candidates so far to take over as GM - two-time NFL Executive of the year Thomas Dimitroff, former Tennessee Titans GM Jon Robinson, Senior Bowl director Jim Nagy, former Eagles scout Louis Riddick and Eagles assistant GM Alec Halaby.
On the coaching front, the Jets have interviewed three candidates - former Washington Commanders coach Ron Rivera, Rex Ryan and former Tennessee Titans coach Mike Vrabel.
Of the three, Ryan and Rivera don't have interviews lined up with other franchises. Vrabel, meanwhile, is a wanted man. The New England Patriots and Chicago Bears have interviewed the ex-Titans coach.
He has been strongly linked with a return to the franchise where he won three Super Bowls as a player, but Tom Brady's Raiders firing Antonio Pierce could complicate matters for the Patriots.
