Former Green Bay Packers player James Jones has reacted to Cowboys owner Jerry Jones blocking Mike McCarthy's interview for the Bears head coach position.
The Chicago Bears had fired their coach Matt Eberflus following the disappointing performance of the team. This left a vacant spot, and the team has been actively interviewing potential candidates to fill the position.
Mike McCarthy was scheduled to interview with the Bears for the role. However, as per a recent report, the Dallas Cowboys denied permission for McCarthy to interview with the rival team.
Former Green Bay Packers player James Jones was critical of Jerry Jones’ decision to block McCarthy's Bears interview. He said on 'The Facility' on Wednesday:

"I don't like how Jerry handled any of the situations. What are we doing Jerry? Either you want him to be your head coach or you don't ... What are you waiting for? If you knew Mike McCarthy was going to be your coach, winning season or losing season, what are you waiting for?
"He had a losing season, and now you're blocking him from going to interview for other jobs, which means you knew that you wanted Mike to be your head coach. What are you waiting for? Why are you playing these games?" he added.
Meanwhile, Mike McCarthy, who has been the coach of the Dallas Cowboys since 2020, is nearing the expiration of his contract with the team. His contract is set to end on Jan. 14, 2025.
McCarthy was looking forward to new opportunities as his contract approached its conclusion. But now that Dallas has not allowed him to interview with other teams, McCarthy's future remains uncertain.
NFL insider shares details about Mike McCarthy’s future
As Dallas denied Mike McCarthy an interview with the Bears, fans became more anxious to know what’s next for the Dallas coach. Recently, NFL insider Ian Rapoport shared insightful details about the future of the former Super Bowl champion. He said in a clip from "Good Morning Football" shared on Wednesday:
"It's been fairly clear, just judging from the public comments on both sides, that there is some mutual interest in Mike McCarthy returning to Dallas as their head coach. They're not there yet. The two sides still need to work on, still need to figure out, what is a mutually beneficial way to bring McCarthy back to Dallas.
"Some of that involves contract terms, some of it involves years—how many years Dallas wants him—as much as Dallas would want as much flexibility as possible. No surprises there. Then there's the other part of it, which is that his contract is up on January 14. Teams can talk to him at that point," he added.
Mike McCarthy holds a rich experience in coaching NFL teams. He served as the coach of the Green Bay Packers from 2006 to 2018 before joining the Cowboys in 2020.
