The football gods give with one hand and take with the other. Entering Week 18, Saquon Barkley was on the cusp of history, needing 101 yards to break Eric Dickerson’s single-season rushing record of 2,105 yards set with the Los Angeles Rams in 1984.
But with the NFC's No. 2 seed sealed, the Eagles brass decided to bite the bullet and rest Saquon Barkley in their regular season finale against the New York Giants.
A number of NFL personalities were less-than-enthused with the Eagles robbing Barkley of a shot at making history. And while Week 18's action is done and dusted, former Rams running back Todd Gurley was thinking about how a chance to set a record was missed.
Quote tweeting a post from a user who felt that Barkley would have broke the NFL's single-season rushing yards total in the first quarter against the Giants, Gurley wrote:

"Smh, should've just let him play."
Barkley was easily the most impressive running back this year alongside Baltimore Ravens star Derrick Henry. Interestingly, both Henry and Barkley were let go by their respective franchises in the summer and landed with two teams that are now competing in the NFL Playoffs.
Barkley ended the season with 2,005 yards when everything was set up for him to write his name into the NFL's history books against the very team that decided he wasn't worth retaining in free agency, the very same team that chose to sign Daniel Jones to a four-year $160 million deal in 2023 only to release him mid-season, a year later.
Where Saquon Barkley's Eagles stand in the NFL Playoffs
The No. 2 seed Eagles and Saquon Barkley will take on the No. 7 seed Packers in what will be a rematch of both teams' season opener that was held in Brazil. That game ended in a 34-29 win for Philadelphia in what was the NFL's first game in South America.
Packers fans will hope things are different this time around. At the end of that game, Jordan Love exited with an injury, leaving Malik Willis to finish the game at the QB position.
The QB concern this time around though lies with the Eagles. Jalen Hurts missed Week 18 after spending the week in concussion protocol. While Hurts is likely to be ready for Sunday's showdown at the Lincoln Financial Field, concerns remain over his ability to suit up after Eagles HC Nick Sirianni told the media on Monday that Hurts was still in the NFL's concussion protocol.
