Frustrated Garrett Wilson questions Jets’ identity after sour 10-9 loss to Denver Broncos

Garrett Wilson may be considered one of the NFL's best wide receivers in an alternate timeline. After all, he was the 2022 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year and one of the few fast-rising bright spots on a New York Jets offense that has lately been held back by poor quarterback play.

Alas, this is not that world. The team has begun the 2024 season at a mediocre 2-2, and the offense is once again a major topic of criticism, especially after a 10-9 loss against the Denver Broncos on Sunday. Wilson is unhappy with the situation, especially after failing to surpass 60 receiving yards in any of his first four games in 2024.

"I don't think we do a lot of different stuff, to be honest," Garrett Wilson told ESPN Radio's Bart & Hahn on Tuesday. "I watch football on Sundays, and I see a lot of teams mix it up and stuff like that. I don't think we do that. I think we know our identity. It's just about going out and executing it or figuring out if it's going to work."

He also had a honest assessment of how his route-running had evolved under offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett.

"I know, personally, my route tree hasn't been what it has been the last two years as far as the stuff I've been running," he said.

Analyzing the possibility of Garrett Wilson being traded by the Jets

Meanwhile, rumors have surfaced that Davante Adams may have played his last snap as a Las Vegas Raider and wants out. The Jets have been floated as the favorites to trade for him, considering his previous history with Aaron Rodgers.

If such a transaction materializes, Garrett Wilson may prove to be odd man out of Gang Green's wideout room, given his current productivity. Allen Lazard is another ex-Packer who played with Rodgers and has overcome a poor 2023 to become the team's top pass-catcher with 206 yards from 16 grabs.

Mike Williams, who joined after being released by the Los Angeles Chargers, has been statistically inferior to Wilson with only 120 yards, which is understandable given his injury history.

However, he was the Jets' leading receiver during their aforementioned loss to the Broncos (67 yards from eight receptions).
