The Dallas Cowboys have promoted offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer to become the team's next head coach after not renewing former coach Mike McCarthy's contract at the end of this season. That leaves a hole in the offensive coordinator spot.

NFL insider Tom Pelissero reports that the Cowboys requested an interview with Kevin Koger, the Atlanta Falcons tight end coach.

People went to social media and shared their dismay at this request by Jerry Jones' Cowboys.

"They should have been waited for Kellen Moore." One person posted
"Because he's done great with a generational talent in kyle Pitts right?" Another person jokingly wrote

More people continued to post on social media and discussed how they were not fans of Koger.

"Jerry took one look at Kyle Pitts 2024 season and said 'i need the guy coaching him to run my offense' What a joke the once mighty Cowboys have become." One person posted on the tweet
"If they made this sort of hire hopefully it's in title only...not sure he has much pedigree to be the 100% owner of the offense and playcaller" Another person posted on social media

While it is unknown if the Falcons are going to allow this request, this could be a sign of things to come in Dallas.

What has Kevin Koger done in his coaching career?

Kevin Koger played for the Michigan Wolverines as a tight end from 2008-2011. After going undrafted in 2012, Koger decided to hang up the cleats.

He began his coaching journey at Saline High School as the team's tight ends coach for the 2012 season. He returned to the Wolverines and spent the 2013 and 2014 seasons as a graduate assistant before filling the same role for the Tennessee Volunteers in 2015.

Koger spent three seasons with the Eastern Kentucky Eagles as the wide receivers coach as well as the special teams coordinator.

Koger jumped from college football to the NFL following the 2018 season. He was hired as an offensive quality control coach for the Green Bay Packers in the 2019 and 2020 seasons.

After that, he joined the Los Angeles Chargers and spent three seasons as the tight ends coach there before leaving last offseason to join Raheem Morris' staff in the same position.
