Geno Smith gets candid about his Seahawks future amid trade rumors

Los Angeles Rams v Seattle Seahawks
Geno Smith has been a successful QB for Seahawks this season

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith had one of the most surprising seasons in the NFL for any player this year. As Russell Wilson departed from the team, traded to the Denver Broncos, it was uncertain who the next franchise quarterback would be for Seattle. It seems like Geno may be that guy.

After entering the season in a quarterback battle with Drew Lock, who was acquired from the Broncos, Smith won the job and started the season as the team's quarterback.

He overperformed this season, setting a franchise record for passing yards with 4,282 and leading the league in a completion percentage at 69.3.

Smith is a free agent this season but is optimistic that he will remain in Seattle. The quarterback joined The Pivot Podcast, hosted by Fred Taylor, Channing Crowder, and Ryan Clark, and opened up about his future with Seattle, stating that he thinks things will work out.

"I would love to be in Seattle. Man, I love Seattle. You know, we have a great relationship. And, you know, I think we'll work things out. You know, when it comes to like contracts, I think every player just wants to get paid his worth. And it's funny because like a great friend of mine tells me, like no matter what cheque they write, it'll never be worth because your worth isn't in money."

Smith added:

"It isn't in monetary things. And so, you just want to be respected. You know, your contract just want to say we respect you. We understand what you bring to the table, we understand the caliber of player you are and we appreciate you. And that's really all it comes down to."

He played in his first complete season since his rookie year in 2013 with the New York Jets. He has set career-highs in wins (9), passing completions, and attempts, yards, touchdowns, passer rating, and rushing yards.

Geno Smith led the Seahawks to a playoff appearance as a wildcard team after many pegged them to have a top draft pick this season.

The 32-year-old is set to get a lucrative deal from Seattle and could be their quarterback for the foreseeable future.
