The San Francisco 49ers ended their disappointing 2024 season on Sunday, with another loss, this time to the Arizona Cardinals. In a meaningless game against two eliminated teams, San Francisco missed Brock Purdy, who suffered an arm injury in Week 17 and had no reason to play without any playoff concerns.

The 49ers have been one of the best teams in the NFL in recent years. They made the NFC Championship Game in four of the past five seasons, and they represented the NFC in last season's Super Bowl. To say that the 6-11 record was frustrating would be an understatement.

But inside the locker room, there are disagreements about how the season panned out. Superstar EDGE Nick Bosa, unhappy with the performance, gave a blank statement about his teammates after the season-ending loss:

“It’s hard to look guys in the faces as the leader on the team and that’s the product that we kept putting out game after game," Bosa said Sunday. "It’s pretty embarrassing.”

However, another superstar, tight end George Kittle, has a different opinion. Kittle, who had one of the best seasons of his career despite a poor overall record, said that the players had nothing to be ashamed of.

"I can look all my teammates in the face," Kittle told the media on Monday. "I put my all out there. A lot of the guys, they put their all out there as well. I have no shame in that. You can go check the tape, and if you're okay with your resume which is on the tape, then you should be okay with your season."

49ers have a major offseason decision to take with Brock Purdy

San Francisco will need to decide what to do with their franchise quarterback. While there should be no doubt about keeping him, his price tag will be around Dak Prescott's most recent contract, when he got $60 million per year on a four-year deal.

Purdy took the 49ers to the playoffs in his first two seasons in the league. However, with a bigger contract, there will be less money to spread around the rest of the roster. We'll see the team negotiating the deal and trying to backload the cap hit to maximize their Super Bowl window.

According to Spotrac, the 49ers have around $67.6 million available on their 2025 salary cap.
