George Kittle gets honest on chasing milestones
Last Monday's game against the Lions was when George Kittle hit a thousand yards for the fourth time in his career, joining Rob Gronkowski, Tony Gonzalez, Jason Witten, and Kellen Winslow Sr. for second-most such seasons among tight ends. (Travis Kelce stands alone at seven - all consecutive.)
Speaking on Friday before that game, he admitted that it was part of his benchmark, alongside 75 receptions and ten touchdowns (2:00 onwards):
"Any time you can get any of those, regardless of what's happening in the season, that's always a good thing. I would much rather be winning football games, but to have that as a cherry on top is awesome. And just, the more seasons that you can stack up like that, the more fun things you can do down the road."
He continued (at 2:24):
"I'll look back on that whenever I'm done playing. It is what it is, but I'm just very excited that I've got to spend eight years with the San Francisco 49ers; hopefully, continue to play here because it's a storied franchise."
One person Kittle hopes to surpass is wide receiver Terrell Owens, who sits at 8,572 yards with the 49ers (the TE is at 7,241). But there is another legend whom he considers untouchable (2:37):
"I don't think I'll ever catch Jerry Rice on anything, but that's totally fine. I'm okay with that. I don't think I want to play that long."
The 49ers end their season at the Arizona Cardinals. Kickoff is at 4:25 PM ET/1:25 PM PT on Fox.
