Former NFL running back Herschel Walker's Senate candidacy is being extended, even if it's for a brief amount of time. Earlier reports suggested that the Republican candidate in Georgia was losing, but that it was close enough to go to a special election. That is now officially the case, per the New York Times.
The runoff will be held in December. Since it's happening so much later than the rest of the elections, it could very well be for the Senate majority.
The Democratic Party held a small advantage over the Republicans prior to this election and it doesn't look like either side will have a commanding lead when it's all said and done this time, either.

By the time the vote comes back around next month, the rest of the states will be decided and this vote could be the difference between a majority or a minority for either side.
Republicans are pinning their hopes on the former NFL star, who has campaigned on heavy conservative beliefs. These include a strong anti-abortion stance and a support for law enforcement.
However, his lack of political experience may have played a role in him not being able to secure an advantage in the first election.
Democrats' hopes rest on incumbent Raphael Warnock, who was in a runoff with Republican Kelly Loeffler in 2020.
How many votes did Herschel Walker get for Georgia Senator?
At the time of writing, the New York Times estimates that more than 95% of votes are in in the state of Georgia, where Walker went to college and won a Heisman trophy for the University of Georgia.
They estimate that Warnock has secured a total of 1,941,473 votes. Comparatively, the former running back earned 1,906,229 votes. Warnock has 49.42% of the vote and Walker has 48.52%.
Libertarian Chase Oliver commanded the other 2.07%. Since neither candidate earned 50% of the vote, they'll have to go through it again in a month.
