Ezekiel Elliott is moving on from the Dallas Cowboys, as revealed by NFL insider Josina Anderson. However, it was not the Cowboys' decision to send him packing, but according to Anderson, Elliott requested the trade himself, although the reason for that is still unknown.

The move comes with just one game left in the regular season before the season wraps up for the Cowboys, who won't be making it to the postseason this year. NFL fans took to X (formerly Twitter) to react to the news, with one fan saying that it's unlikely that he would find an NFL team that would sign him, so he should start learning the rules of the XFL.

"Get ready to learn XFL buddy," a fan wrote.

Another fan took a shot at him and said that he was a hyped-up player who couldn't deliver.

"Most overrated Cowboy of all time," the fan said.

Other fans also joined in in ridiculing Elliott for his decision to be released.

"Should have never signed him in the first place he’s washed and obviously he has a bad attitude," one fan said.
"Release? Time for him to retire!" another fan said.
"Bro think he’s going to a contender 😂," one fan wrote.
"Jones said they were saving him…we just didn’t know it was for another team," another fan said.

Ezekiel Elliott struggled to make a mark in Dallas

Ezekiel Elliott had been drafted by the Cowboys in 2016 in the first round and was the fourth pick overall, showing that he held great promise. However, after the 2022 season, the Cowboys decided to release him, and he was acquired by the New England Patriots before being signed by the Cowboys again in early 2024.

During his second stint with "America's Team," Elliott recorded a paltry three touchdowns and had an average of just 3.1 yards per carry, which is also the lowest in his career.

During Week 9, the team did not let him play against the Atlanta Falcons because he had missed several key meetings. The running back will turn 30 this July, and the fact that he is on the decline and hasn't averaged more than four yards per carry during his last three seasons indicates that other teams might not be very interested in signing him.

But could he request the trade himself, hinting at the possibility that he already has a team figured out who is willing to sign a running back in an apparent decline?
